Joseph Yobo appointed Senior Special Assistant on Sports Development to Rivers state gov. Nyesom Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has appointed Former Super Eagles Captain, Joseph Yobo as his Senior Special Assistant on Sports Development.

This was released in a statement by the Special Assistant to the River state governor on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu. He also noted that his appointment takes immediate effect.

Shehu Sani counters Ben Bruce's claim that he was prevented from greeting President Buhari

Senator Shehu Sani who is a big critic of the Buhari led government has countered Sen. Ben Murray-Bruce allegetions that some DSS officials prevented him from greeting president Buhari at the presidential dinner hosted in honor of National Assembly members yesterday.

More troubles for Runtown as Federal High Court slams injunction on him

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has slammed an injunction against the rising musical artiste Douglas Jack-Agu aka "Runtown".

The injunction prevents him from performing at any event or any form of recording for the time being unless with the approval of Ericmany Limited. Runtown is signed under the Ericmany Entertainment label that presently holds the copyright to all his music.

Runtown at war with record label

Nigerian singer, Runtown is at war with his record label, Ericmanny Limited. This was revealed through letters written to Ericmanny by the singer through his lawyers.

According to the letters, Runtown claims there was a threat made to his life and he was unfairly treated by the record label.

Niger Delta Avengers writes open letter to Tompolo

The Niger Delta Avengers through their spokesperson, Brig.Gen Mudoch Agbinibo wrote an open letter which was shared on their website in response to former Niger Delta militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo letter and they also addressed the International community as well.

NSCDC discovers bomb making factories in Borno

The Borno State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) on Sunday discovered two bomb-making factories in Dikwa.

This disclosure was made by the NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr Ibrahim Abdullahi, during an interview with the news men in Maiduguri.

Abdullahi said that the factories were discovered during a patrol by men of the command in collaboration with the troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade of the Nigerian Army.

Heavy causalities as pro-Biafran activist clash with Police and Soldiers in Onitsha

A police officer was allegedly stabbed and two others  thrown into the River Niger today during a clash between members of the Indigenous People of Biafra and a police patrol van in Onitsha, Anambra State.

According to sources privy to the information, the Biafra supporters who are celebrating Biafran heroes today, were parading the River Niger road when the police patrol van ran into them and attempted to disperse them.

Kuje Prison is operating beyond its capacity

According to the Deputy Comptroller of prisons in Nigeria, Musa Tanko, Kuje Prisons in Abuja is currently holding inmates way beyond its capacity which as a result is leading to congestion.

Tanko revealed this on Sunday when a group of the Alumni Association of the Nigerian Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Abuja chapter, visited the prison to donate vocational material to the inmates.

Renewed attacks: Amnesty boss meets with ex-militants

As attacks in the Niger Delta region continues to increase, the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and the Coordinator of the Niger Delta Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brigadier General (Rtd) P.T. Boroh, on Saturday, held a meeting with ex militants leaders in Benin City, Edo state.

The meeting which was attended by Amnesty Programme beneficiaries, Phase 1, 2 and 3, was aimed at discussing solutions, recommendations and observations in the Niger Dalta Amnesty programme.

Yobe state set to build first cargo airport in the north

Commissioner for Works, Transport and Energy in Yobe state Sirajo Wakil yesterday in Damaturu revealed that the State Government will soon award a contract for the construction of the first ever cargo airport in Northern Nigeria region.

According to Wakil, the airport would be for ticketing as well as for cargo and would be located in Damaturu, the state capital.

EFCC recovers N900m from Jonathan’s former aide

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered N900m from Mr. Waripamowei Dudafa, a former Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

It was reported that the money was found in one of Dudafa’s accounts, which was immediately frozen.

Lagos state governor Akinwunmi Ambode has set up a N500 milion Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD) fund.
Speaking at a programme for the physically challenged with the theme:  “Celebrating Ability in Disability” at the Lagos House, to commemorate his first year in office, Mr. Ambode said the aim of the fund was to ensure level playing field for the physically challenged who were usually presumed not able to live normal lives.

5.7m Nigerians Living With HIV/AIDS

Former African Presidents, under the aegis of Champions for an AIDS-Free Generation in Africa, yesterday said over 3.4 per cent of Nigerians are currently living with the dreaded HIV/AIDS. The percentage put forward by the ex- presidents, means about 5.7 million of Nigeria’s 170 million are currently infected with the virus.

The figures were revealed by both the former President of Botswana, Festus Mogae and ex- Vice President of Uganda, Speciosa Wandira, when they paid a courtesy call on the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki.

Fulani herdsmen raids Gov. Ortom’s village, kills 50 people

Benue state governor Samuel Ortom on thursday said that his country home was sacked by Fulani mercenaries who also killed over 50 of his kinsmen after which they razed over 200 hectares of his rice farm.

The Governor stated this when he received the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors’ Forum led by Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state who paid him a visit.

Niger Delta Avengers blows up NNPC Pipeline

Less than 12 hours after it forced Chevron’s Escravo’s oil terminal to declare a force majure,  the Niger Delta Avengers militant group has attacked and blown up a large gas and crude pipeline operated by Nigerian National Petroleum Company.

Fulani herdsmen may be connected with Boko Haram – Army chief

Chief of Army Staff, Lt.Gen. Tukur Buratai has revealed that the rampaging Fulani herdsmen may be connected to terror group, Boko Haram.

The Army chief said this during a visit to the Governor of Ogun state, Ibikunle Amosun on Thursday. Buratai said that there may be a possibility that the herdsmen are affiliated with the insurgents.

Ekiti workers embarks on indefinite strike

The organised Labour in Ekiti State on Thursday embarked on an indefinite strike to protest the non payment of the outstanding five months’ salaries of workers in the state.
The strike commenced after the expiration of the 48-hour-ultimatum issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress and the Joint Negotiating Council to Governor Ayodele Fayose to pay workers’ salary deductions for December 2015.

All government offices were under lock as workers stayed away from work.

NNPC returns N6 billion as FG suffers $45.90 million revenue loss

The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has reportedly refunded the sum of #6.330 billion to the federal government, even as the federal government suffered a revenue loss of $45.90 million.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by Kene Offie, Head of Press and Public Relations, Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.

The statement also gave a detailed breakdown on how the revenue for the month of April was allocated between the different tiers of government.

FG may likely Increase the minimum wage

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Federal Government, after yesterday's meeting agreed to set up a 16 man committee that will work out the new minimum wage as well as palliatives that will soften the effects of the increase in the pump price of fuel.

New heads appointed for VON, NAN, NTA

Edo State Govt retracts appointment letter of the new Oba of Benin

Following the demise of the Oba of Benin, Omo n'Oba n'Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Erediauwa I, Edo state government announced today that it has approved the appointment of His Royal Highness Edaiken N’Uselu, Crown Prince Eheneden Erediauwa as the new Oba of Benin.

The government have now withdrawn the letter earlier issued, saying it was released in error.

Boko Haram members attack community in Borno, 6 feared dead

No fewer than 6 people were left dead after Boko Haram members attacked Ladi Butai community in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State at about 9pm yesterday.
The group reportedly overpowered members of the Civilian Joint Taskforce and gained access into the community. Many of the villagers have fled to Maiduguri for safety.

Court rejects Metuh’s application

Justice of the Federal High Court, Okon Abang has rejected the application for leave to travel abroad for medical reasons filed by embattled former spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Olisa Metuh.

According to ‎Abang, the court lacks jurisdiction to entertain the application because there is a subsisting order directing the accused to keep his international passport with the chief registrar of the high court.

“This is not a case of sympathy, but a case of law.‎ This court has no jurisdiction to entertain this application,” he said.
