Suspected militants armed with guns this morning invaded Igbo Nla Model College in Epe, Lagos, kidnapping the principal, the Nation reports.Militants
It is said that men of the Lagos state police command are in search of the kidnappers.

National Assembly invites Buhari over recession

The National Assembly has reportedly invited President Muhammadu Buhari to appear before it over the current economic recession, The Punch reports.Buhari presenting the budget
In a motion passed by both the Senate and the House of Representative on Thursday, the legislature wants President Buhari to address it on efforts being made by his administration to tackle the economic recession in the country.

Naira appreciates against dollar

The Naira on Wednesday appreciated against the dollar in all the segments of the foreign exchange market.currency
The currency gained 9.97 points to exchange at N310.24 from N320.21 it recorded on Tuesday, representing an appreciation of 3.1 per cent.
It also gained a point against the dollar at the parallel market, exchanging at N475 from N476 posted on Tuesday, while it closed against the Pound Sterling and the Euro at N590 and N510, respectively.

INEC distributes 1.2m PVCs In Ondo

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State yesterday said it had distributed a total of 1,201,073 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to registered voters.INEC box
Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Olusegun Agbaje, said this at a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure.

Agbaje said that 344,006 PVCs were yet to be collected and urged those yet to collect theirs to do so before the end of distribution.

Gov Bello appoints first female chief press secretary

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has appointed Petra Akinti Onyegbule as the Chief Press Secretary.petra-akinti-onyegbule
With the appointment, Onyegbule is the first woman in the history of northern Nigeria and the second in Nigerian history to occupy the post.
 Onyegbule whose appointment takes effect from October 1 had served as the Special assistant to Gov Bello on new media.

Rice smuggled into the country not fit for consumption - CG Customs

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Mr Hameed Ali at a joint news conference on illegal rice importation into Nigeria Tuesday in Abuja, said 99% of rice smuggled through the land borders into the country are not fit for human consumption.riceHe said samples of some of the rice seizures made over a period were referred to NAFDAC to ascertain their condition.
He said the test reports certified that smuggled rice through the borders was unfit for human consumption and so Nigerians should desist from it.

Despite the fact that Tinubu's statement was harsh, we have no rift - Oyegun

Yes we have difference of perception but in politics that is normal. Yes I agree that the nature of the statement was a bit harsh".

We are not aware money was distributed in Edo – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission says it is not aware that political parties distributed money during the September 28 governorship election in Edo State.INEC box
The commission said its attention had yet to be called to the alleged distribution of money to the electorates by political parties in order to attract their votes.

The Director of Voter Education and Publicity at the commission, Mr. Oluwole Ozasse-Uzi, stated this in an interview in Abuja on Tuesday.

He said; “Nigeria was paired with former Africa Cup of Nations winners, Zambia,  Algeria and Cameroon, who have been to the World Cup seven times. Algeria is the highest ranked team in Africa as we speak. It is a group that is called ‘Group of Death’, which means we need to intensify our preparations. We need to monitor our players and make sure that the  ticket is made available.

FG puts up two presidential jets for sale

The federal government has put up two aircraft in the presidential fleet for sale in a move to cut down the size of the fleet.presidential-jets
The Office of the National Security Adviser advertised the sale of two airplanes on Tuesday.

The advert, published on page 35 of Tuesday’s edition of ThisDay Newspaper, said the aircraft up for sale were Falcon 7x and Hawker 4000.
