South Africa’s top music act, Mandoza is dead

South African kwaito music star, Mduduzi Edmund Tshabalala aka Mandoza, has passed on. He was aged 38. He died yesterday after a long battle with cancer, which had reportedly spread to his brain, leading him to lose his sight completely.

He was facing difficulties in breathing and was rushed to the hospital. He died at the hospital gate.

Four companies linked to Patience Jonathan's $15million plead guilty

Four companies involved in a money laundering case linked to former First Lady, Patience Jonathan, pleaded guilty before Justice Babs Kuewumi of a Federal High Court in Lagos today.
The four companies- Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited; Seagate Property Development and Investment Company Limited; Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company Limited; and Avalon Global Property Development Company Limited; all pleaded guilty to conspiring with former Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Waripamo Dudafa, and two others to launder the sum of $15, 591,700.

The Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday issued a statement calling for President Muhammadu Buhari to step down from office over his poor handling of the country’s economy.

The statement issued by their spokesperson, Dayo Adeyeye, in Abuja partly reads;

"What Nigerians want from this Administration are results, simple! And not resorting to throwing tantrums on the PDP at every given opportunity. 

Unity bank sacks 215 workers

Unity Bank Plc yesterday reduced its workforce by sacking 215 members of staff  due to their inability to cope with the new ideas and strategy of the company, Vanguard reports.

According to a source privy to the bank, about 200 new hires were said to have been recruited by the bank to promote the transformation initiative that was initiated by the management within the past year. The source also revealed that about 100 other staff members were said to have been promoted recently.

Boko Haram threatens to capture Buhari in new video

In a new video by the Boko Haram, suspected members of the sect said they were plotting to capture President Muhammadu Buhari.

The video which was posted on Youtube on Tuesday showed terrorists observing Eid on Sallah day, according to the narrator.

In the video which was recorded in composite to capture two Eid grounds , Shekau’s deputy speaking in Hausa stated the group willingness to continue its jihad against the Nigerian state.

Patience Jonathan writes EFCC, says $15m in her accounts are for medical bills, others

Former first lady, Patience Jonathan, has written a letter to the EFCC explaining the $15 million embedded in her account.

In a letter with reference number GA/Abibo/00226/2016, written by her lawyers, Granville Abibo (SAN) and Co, and addressed to the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, the former first lady said the $15 million which has been seized by the antigraft agency, was for her medical bills and other personal expenses.

The letter read in part; "It is noteworthy to emphasise that the said accounts, which were in US dollar denomination, were card-based accounts and our client is the sole signatory to these accounts.

Militants blow up another pipeline in Delta

A militant group, Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate, NDGJM, in the early hours of Tuesday, blew up the Afiesere-Iwhrenene major delivery line to UPS/UQCC, operated by Nigeria Petroleum Development Company, NDPC/Shorelines Petroleum in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Activist group demands explanation of Patience Jonathan's source of wealth

Activist group, Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL) in a statement released on Tuesday is calling on the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, to explain the source of the funds used to build a N10 billion hotel in Bayelsa State.

The statement, released by the group’s acting Media Officer, Abiodun Rabiu, quoted the Executive Chairman of CACOL, Debo Adeniran, as saying that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission needed no further petition to invite Patience for questioning as it recalled that Patience was only a permanent secretary in Bayelsa State at that time and at such it demands the ex-president’s wife must be made to explain the source of her wealth.

Arik Air reportedly shuts down operations

Arik Airline has reportedly shut down its operation following its inability to renew its aircraft insurance. The suspension is coming after its inability to pay its debt owned to its suppliers of aviation fuel and also the airlines insurers in Europe and elsewhere have reportedly withdrawn insurance cover from the airline forcing it to shut down operations altogether.

Edo election to hold as scheduled – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission has said the Edo State governorship election will hold as scheduled.

The National Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, announced this during a press briefing at the state headquarters of the commission.
