Arik Airline has reportedly shut down its operation following its inability to renew its aircraft insurance. The suspension is coming after its inability to pay its debt owned to its suppliers of aviation fuel and also the airlines insurers in Europe and elsewhere have reportedly withdrawn insurance cover from the airline forcing it to shut down operations altogether.
A statement by its Spokesman, Mr Adebanji Ola said “Arik Air, West and Central Africa’s largest airline has alerted all air travelers of a temporary disruption to its operations, pending approval of aircraft documentation related to insurance renewal.
“The airline said that it was working around the clock to resolve the necessary documentation, which has been a challenge due to the long weekend holidays due to Ed al Adha.”
Most of the airline's flights have been cancelled today following these development.
