Portugal started the match with same 4-4-2 formation, with C. Ronaldo and Nani upfront but it wasn't long until Ronaldo was stretched off after sustaining a serious knee injury after a heavy collision with Dimitri Payet.

France in the first half were the better team with Sissokho the main star in the first half but Portugal's goal tender Rui Patricio was heroic.
Rui Patrício had earlier kept out the tournament’s top talisman Antoine Griezmann‘s brilliant header.
Portugal started the second half with Nani as captain and Quaresma replacing the already injured Ronaldo and grew in confidence.
Kingsley Coman was then introduced by Didier Deschamps to replace Dimitri Payet around the 60th minute. The Bayern player soon influenced the game when he provided a near-perfect goal-scoring opportunity for Griezmann only for the Atletico man who was unmarked to head it over.
Olivier Giroud also tried his luck in front of goal but Rui Patricio was having an outstanding day in goal as he kept out the Arsenal forward’s low effort. Substitute André-Pierre Gignac would have sneaked in a winner in the dying minutes of the game for Les Blues, only for him to watch his ball hit the post.Euro-2016-Final-Portugal-v-France
Ronaldo, showed so much exemplary leadership qualities and came to the touch line to spur and inspire his teammates to apply more pressure on the French defence.
By this time Portugal was beginning to feel that they had the game for the taking and scored through substitute Eder in the second half of extra time.Portugal
