President Buhari this morning on his twitter handle reacted to the killing of eight people in Zamfara following a religious crisis that broke out at the Abdu Gusau Polytechnic in Zamfara state yesterday.

Joachim Iroko, the man who named his dog ‘Buhari’, was yesterday arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Ota, Ogun State.

Joachim who is a trader, was said to have behaved himself in a manner that could cause breach of peace by naming his dog Buhari and parading same at the Hausa section of Ketere market in Sango area.

Eight persons burnt to death in Abdu Gusau Polytechnic religious crisis in Zamfara

Eight persons were burnt to death yesterday following the religious crisis that broke out at the Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata-Mafara in Zamfara state as a result of alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by a student of the college.

According to an eyewitness account, a male student who is a Christian allegedly made a blasphemous statement about Prophet Muhammad during an exchange of words with a Muslim friend, this infuriated his Muslim colleagues who immediately descended on him, beating him to a pulp.

Kaduna state govt set to ban use of High energy consuming bulb in the state

The Kaduna State Government on Monday said it is set to ban the use of high energy consuming bulb in the state as part of strategy to boost energy efficiency.The state’s Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Muhammad Abdullahi made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna.

According to him, the state government will next year begin a sensitization campaign against use of High energy consuming bulbs before placing a ban on it.

Police stop BBOG members from entering Aso Rock

Security officers have barricaded the Bring Back Our Girls group from gaining access into Aso Rock. The Bring Back Our Girls Group staged a protest to the State House Abuja today demanding the release of the missing Chibok girls.

According to reports shared on twitter they were barricaded from entering the Aso Rock and are currently holding a press conference in front of the Presidential Villa.

Neymar steps down as Brazil captain

Brazilian playmaker Neymar has stepped down as captain of the national side after firing them to Olympic gold on Saturday night.

Brazil won the gold medal after defeating Germany in the final of the men football match on home soil. Neymar struck a 25-yard free-kick and then slotted home the winning goal after the match went into penalty shoot-out at the Olympic Games in Rio.

Six DELSU lecturers sacked for sexual harassment of female students

Delta State University, Abraka have sacked six lecturers over various offences, including sexual harassment of female students. Their sack came after a disciplinary committee was set up to investigate the allegations levelled against them.
The University Governing Council at 97th regular meeting held at the weekend, recommended their dismissal having found them guilty of several offences including sexual harassment of female students.

President Buhari seeks emergency powers to tackle economy recession

President Buhari will be seeking emergency powers from the National Assembly to push his planned stimulus for the economy as part of efforts to save the country's economy from sliding further into recession.
According to the Nation, when the National Assembly reconvenes in September after their vacation, the president will present an executive bill titled: “Emergency Economic Stabilisation Bill 2016”.

In the bill, the executive will be asking for President Buhari to be given sweeping powers to set aside some extant laws and use executive orders to roll out an economic recovery package within the next one year.

There is no intelligence report Chibok girls are in Sambisa forest, says Chief of Air Staff

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, says the Nigerian Air Force has no intelligence on whether the Chibok girls are in Sambisa forest or not.

Abubakar spoke during an interactive session with journalists on Saturday in Abuja, said, however the NAF was working round the clock to rescue the girls and other Nigerians abducted by Boko Haram.

Responding to the question on if the NAF had any intelligence on whether the Chibok girls were in the Sambisa Forest or not, Abubakar said; “Honestly we don’t. That is the truth of the matter. Even if you see women that are dressed in hijab, how are you sure they are women, that they are not men?
