Despite the fact that Tinubu's statement was harsh, we have no rift - Oyegun

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Oyegun has finally reacted to the call by the National Leader of his party, Bola Tinubu in which he called for his resignation as been harsh but there is no rift between them.

Speaking with state house correspondents after his meeting with President Buhari at the state house yesterday, Oyegun said; "All what me and Tinubu have is a difference of opinion. Yes it was expressed a bit harshly but that doesn't remove the basic fact that we have worked together. There is no rift. We have a difference of opinion. Yes we have difference of perception but in politics that is normal. Yes I agree that the nature of the statement was a bit harsh".

We are not aware money was distributed in Edo – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission says it is not aware that political parties distributed money during the September 28 governorship election in Edo State.
The commission said its attention had yet to be called to the alleged distribution of money to the electorates by political parties in order to attract their votes.

The Director of Voter Education and Publicity at the commission, Mr. Oluwole Ozasse-Uzi, stated this in an interview in Abuja on Tuesday.

We don’t have funds for match against Zambia - NFF

President of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick yesterday said they lack adequate funds for the Super Eagles’  World Cup qualifier against  Zambia in Ndola on Sunday.

Pinnick said this when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Sports yesterday.

He said; “Nigeria was paired with former Africa Cup of Nations winners, Zambia,  Algeria and Cameroon, who have been to the World Cup seven times. Algeria is the highest ranked team in Africa as we speak. It is a group that is called ‘Group of Death’, which means we need to intensify our preparations. We need to monitor our players and make sure that the  ticket is made available.

FG puts up two presidential jets for sale

The federal government has put up two aircraft in the presidential fleet for sale in a move to cut down the size of the fleet.
The Office of the National Security Adviser advertised the sale of two airplanes on Tuesday.

The advert, published on page 35 of Tuesday’s edition of ThisDay Newspaper, said the aircraft up for sale were Falcon 7x and Hawker 4000.

Tennis star Maria Sharapova's doping ban reduced to 15 months

Tennis star Maria Sharapova has had her two year ban from tennis reduced to 15 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).

The Russian tennis star tested positive for banned substance- meldonium in January, and revealed in a press conference she was taking the drug for a medical condition but her ban was widely expected to be reduced as the debate around the drug meldonium continued to rage on.

Sharapova will now be free to compete again professionally in April 2017.

Senators resolve to contribute N300,000 each to ease the plight of IDPs

Members of the senate today resolved to contribute N300,000 each to ease the plight of Internally Displaced Persons in all camps in the country. The senators agreed to make the donations after deliberating on the Mounting Humanitarian crisis in the North East.

Orubebe found guilty of false declaration of assets

The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on Tuesday found former minister of Niger Delta affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe guilty of false declaration of asset, The Cable reports.

Orubebe was charged before the court by the federal government on a one-count charge of false declaration of asset.

Chairman of the tribunal, Danladi Umar who delivered the judgment convicted Orubebe of the offence.

Umar held that Orubebe committed an offence for not declaring a piece of property in Abuja, which he claimed he had sold.

Minsiter of Environment, Laurentia Laraba under Jonathan's government kidnapped

Former Minister of Environment Laurentia Laraba Mallam under former President Goodluck Jonathan has been kidnapped.

According to The Leadership, she was kidnapped on Monday night alongside her husband Mr Pius in Jere, area of Kagarko local government in Kaduna State.

Dangote denies plans to buy NLNG, other national assets

President and Chairman of Dangote group of companies, Aliko Dangote, says even though he suggested the sale of some national assets as measures to get out of the current economic recession, he wasn't interested in buying any.

In an interview with ThisDay, Dangote said even if the NLNG and other assets were offered to him on credit,he wasn't going to buy.

PDP heads to court to challenge Obaseki’s victory

The Peoples Democratic Party on Monday said that it would challenge the results of the Edo State governorship election at the election petitions tribunal.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had last Thursday declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Godwin Obaseki, as the winner of the election.

Obaseki had a total of 319,483 votes while his PDP counterpart, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, polled 253,173 votes to come second.

Kebbi declares today public holiday

The Kebbi Government has declared today October 4 as public holiday to mark the beginning of the new Islamic calendar 1438 A.H. (After Hijrah).
A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi state governor Alhaji Atiku Bagudu in Birnin Kebbi urged Muslims to use the holiday to pray for Nigeria.
