Facebook acquires popular teen app 'tbh'

Facebook has bought tbh, an app that lets people give each other compliments by participating in anonymous quizzes.

Teens have been flocking to the app named after the acronym frequently used in texts, "to be honest" to participate in anonymous polls and give feedback to friends.

The teen-focused app, designed for people who are 13 and older is currently only available in a handful of states in the US, has been the No. 1 free app in the iOS App Store for more than three weeks now.

The app creators control the content of the polls, like "Best person to go on a roadtrip with." and the concept has spread like wildfire amongst teens.

Facebook did not disclose the amount that it paid for the app. In a blog post announcing the acquisition, the creators of tbh said that it had been downloaded more than 5 million times in the last few weeks. A billion messages have already been sent through the app.

Facebook confirmed the acquisition news but didn't disclose terms of the deal but the social media company said tbh's four co-creators Nikita Bier, Erik Hazzard, Kyle Zaragoza, and Nicolas Ducdodon will join Facebook's Menlo Park headquarters and the app will continue operating as a standalone app under Facebook, a Facebook spokeswoman told the Wall Street Journal.
