Fuel scarcity looms as NARTO, PTD threaten strike

Petroleum Tanker drivers have threatened to withdraw their services in seven days if government and major oil marketers fail to pay up the debts owed them for transporting petroleum products to different parts of Nigeria.NARTO
The Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) issued the warning after an emergency meeting of the association in Abuja yesterday.

A statement by the NARTO President, Kassim Bataiya read; “If by seven days from today all the authorities concerned do not come back to us and do what they are expected to do we will withdraw our services meaning we will park our trucks in our garages and the trucks will not move anywhere.”
If the transporters withdraw their services, the consequence is that there will be no movement of petroleum product nationwide as Nigeria relies on truck for about 98 per cent of fuel distribution.
