A former minister of Mines, Power and Petroleum, Shettima Ali-Monguno is dead.Ali Monguno
The passing of the elder statesman was announced by the Secretary to the Borno State Government, Jidda Shuwa in a statement on Friday in Maiduguri.
The statement read, “It is with a deep sense of loss and profound sadness that we announce, on behalf of His Excellency the Executive Governor of Borno State and the Borno State Government, the passage of our father and distinguished Statesman, Alhaji (Dr.) Shettima Ali Monguno.”

The deceased would be buried on Saturday in Maiduguri after a funeral prayer at 2 p.m. at his abode.
Shuwa further prayed for the his soul to rest in peace and wished his family and the people of Borno the fortitude to bear the huge loss.
Ali-Monguno was born in Monguno, Borno in 1926. He attended Monguno primary school, Teacher’s College Bauchi and Katsina, College of Arts, Science and Technology Zaria, Moray House college of Education and the University of Edinburgh.
He was also a parliamentarian in the First Republic and was appointed the Minister of Air Force and Internal Affairs between 1965 and 1966.
He became a Federal Commissioner for Trade and Industries between 1966 and 1971 and Minister for Mines and Power, Petroleum and Energy between 1972 to 1975.
Monguno was also President of OPEC from 1972 to 1973.
