Saraki makes one more attempt to halt CCT trial

Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on Monday, asked the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal to order stay proceedings of his false assets declaration trial.Bukola-Saraki
Saraki is being tried on charges of false and anticipatory asset declaration before the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
Chairman of the CCT, Danladi Umar, had fixed April 5, for the trial of the Senate President to begin at the tribunal.

The Senate President also filed a 9-ground notice of appeal to challenge the ruling of the CCT which, on March 24, 2016, dismissed his application to challenge the jurisdiction of the tribunal to hear the charges against him.
Punch Newspapers reports that both the notice of appeal and the motion for stay of proceedings were served on the tribunal and the prosecution on Monday.
The Federal Government is prosecuting Saraki on 13 counts of false and anticipatory asset declaration, which he allegedly made in the four forms which he submitted to the Code of Conduct Bureau at the beginning and end of his first and second terms as the Governor of Kwara State between 2003 and 2011.
The fresh appeal is challenging the CCT’s ruling, which affirmed that it had jurisdiction to hear the case after resolving all the issues raised by the Senate President.
