The outstanding players of the 2015-16 English Premier League season were honoured at the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Awards on Sunday at the Grosvenor House in London.
Riyad Mahrez, held off competition from Tottenham forward Harry Kane, Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil, West Ham United midfielder Dimitri Payet and fellow Leicester men Jamie Vardy and N'Golo Kante to win the award.
The Algerian who is now the first African player to pick up the award has bagged 17 goals and provided 11 assists in 33 Premier League games.
Tottheham’s Dele Alli won the Men’s Young Player of the Year ahead of Tottenham team-mate and last season’s winner Harry Kane.
He also beat out Liverpool attacker Philippe Coutinho, Stoke’s Jack Butland and Everton pair Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley.
The England international of Nigerian descent has scored 10 goals and set up nine in 32 Premier League appearances this season, playing in all but two of his side’s league games.
Manchester City forward Izzy Christiansen won the Women's Player of the Year award.
Sunderland striker Beth Mead, 20, was named Women's Young Player of the Year.
