Abeg Buy Me Condom

"Baby on your way back can you buy some condoms, you know we finished the remaining last night" I asked over the phone.

"Hian, no oh, don't you know am a lady? How can I enter a pharmacy and request for condoms?"

This happened many years back and that mentality is still within us till today. People are ashamed to buy condoms, even the vendors aren't helping matters, they look at you like "so you too don dey f**k". If there are people in the pharmacy, they look at you like you should be eternally condemned to death immediately for daring buy a condom. They raise their noses in disgust and look at you like a pervert, especially the elderly ones.

Yet we lament on the spike of STDs among the youth. Many of them are too ashamed to get a condom. Some ladies want to play it safe, they want their man to wear protection but he won't want to and she can't insist because she can't summon the courage to walk into a store and buy a pack of condoms. So she succumbs to his request to go in unclothed.

Some years back at shoprite, I was with my friends and we bought some things and then reached the counter to pay. The cashier, shebi na wetin dem dey call them, was really nice and playful. I saw packs of condoms and was like " Oh, I even forgot I needed these" and I took one pack. Right there the cashier (or whatever they are called) changed. She became aggressive and rude. Normally I ignore such outbursts from people who mean nothing to me. My friends wouldn't let it go and they yabbed her to death. I think an ambulance came to pick her after they bad-mouthed her.

When I was in school I needed condoms and as I was going to get some, a friend gave me some money to also get for him. So when I got to the pharmacy I requested for four packs of you know what. The man who sold it didn't bat an eyelid but the lady by the side who came to buy postinor shouted "Jesus Christ". What she shouting for? Does she know if I want to blow 'blom blom' with it? Nonsense and ingredients.

I will be the last person to tell an adult not to enjoy himself but don't let shame come in the way of enjoying yourself. Don't risk it by diving in without a swimsuit. Be protected. Ladies, there is nothing like it being unladylike to get condoms. If you get a disease the shame will be trippled when you go to treat yourself. You need to have your own condoms incase your man wants to pull a fast one on you and go in butt naked.
