2.5m Chickens Now Affected By Bird Flu In Nigeria, As Disease Spreads To 18 States

Avian Influenza, popularly referred to as bird flu which has returned back to Nigeria has now affected 2.5 million chickens and has spread to 18 states in Nigeria.BirdFlu
According to the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science, this has resulted in the loss of several billions of Naira.
The Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, NIAS, Dr. Godwin Oyedeji while explain further on this said,
“By the last count, I think as of yesterday (Thursday), not less than 2.5 million chickens have been infected and over 700 farms have been affected nationwide. From one incidence in one state and moving to two states, it has increased and I think by now we are having it in not less than 18 states,” he affirmed

Eight killed, many injured as bomb blast rocks Gombi, Adamawa

Two suicide bombers on Friday afternoon blew up themselves at the grain section of the international market in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing eight persons and injuring twenty-eight others.Explosion
The Northeast Information Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, said eight persons died while twenty-seven others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The attack is suspected to have been masterminded by Boko Haram insurgents as the market, which attracts people from Cameroon and other neighbouring countries, is in a local government that shares boundary with the dreaded Sambisa forest.

Nnamdi Kanu refused bail, to remain in Kuje prison

Supreme Court Sacks Stella Oduah, Andy Uba, All Anambra PDP Senators


The Supreme Court in Nigeria has sacked PDP Senators from Anambra State, which includes Stella Oduah and Andy Uba. Also affected are members of the House of Representatives elected on the ticket of the PDP.

Chris Uba, younger brother to Mr. Andy Uba, and Prince Emeka are expected to take over seats vacated by Mr. Andy Uba and Stella Oduah respectively.

 Former Senator Annie Okonkwo is also in line to represent the PDP in a forthcoming election to fill a senatorial seat held by Uche Ekwunife who was sacked last December by the Court of Appeal.

Substandard electrical appliances responsible for the increase in fire outbreak in Lagos- LASG

The Lagos State Government has identified the influx of substandard electrical appliances into Lagos as one of the major causes of the increased rate of fire incident in the state. ‎ambode
The Government in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Oluseye Oladejo, said preliminary investigation by his office and the State Fire Service Director, Rasak Fadipe, revealed that installation of substandard electrical appliances in most cases trigger fire outbreaks, adding that all hands to be on deck to forestall future occurrences.
The government called on the Standard Organization of Nigeria SON to rise of to its responsibility to check the standard of materials coming into the state.

The commissioner urged residents to be more vigilant and look out for only quality electrical appliances in the market as well as ensure that they patronise only qualified electricians to install same in their homes.
He also urged Electricity Generation (Gencos) and Distribution Companies (Discos) to look into the power voltage made available to customers to prevent power surge resulting from high voltage which could cause fire outbreak. He said the state government will continue do everything within the confines of the law to ensure that lives and property of its citizenry are secured.

“The government is not in any way comfortable in the number of fire incidents that have occurred in the last few months and therefore government will not look the other way while this increase in fire disasters continues. People should be more proactive to make sure that they switch off electrical appliances when they are going to bed and when they are also leaving their offices.
This will go a long way in reducing, if not totally eliminating the incidence of fire outbreaks in the state which has unfortunately led to the loss of lives and property in recent time. Fire outbreaks in our homes, markets and offices are totally unacceptable and we must do something about it,” he said.

2015 Hajj stampede: Last survivor returns

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has confirmed the return of the last Nigerian pilgrim, Hajiya Fatima Isa, who survived the 2015 Hajj stampede in Saudi Arabia.

Lassa fever: Lagos confirms death of female patient

According to him, a 27-year-old lady travelled to Edo on Dec. 24, 2015 and returned to Lagos on Jan. 2.
”She became ill on Jan. 14, and received care in one private hospital and three churches before she was referred on Jan. 23 to Ijede General Hospital with fever, vomiting, diarrhoea and body weakness.

FG targets N66bn revenue from stamp duty in 2016

10 killed as suicide bombers strike Chibok community

Three bombs have exploded in north-eastern Nigeria's Chibok town, targeting three different places, the BBC Hausa service reports.Explosion
The first bomb went off at a weekly market while another detonated at a security checkpoint. It is unclear whether the third bomb exploded.
Reports say the attacks were carried out by suicides bombers which has left 10 people dead and many wounded.
Militant Islamist group, Boko Haram raided the same town in April 2014, and abducted more than 200 girls who are yet to be released.

Ex-EFCC boss Waziri loses daughter


The daughter of former EFCC chairperson Farida Waziri, Jackie Ifidon-Ola has died. Family sources say the 39 year old died at a hospital in Abuja on Sunday January 224th after a brief illness. She is survived by a husband, two children and her parents, Senator Ajuji Waziri and Farida Waziri.

High Court adjusts Olisa Metuh’s bail conditions


A Federal High Court has adjusted the bail conditions given to National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), Olisa Metuh who is standing trial for fraudulently receiving N400 million from the office of former NSA Sambo Dasuki.

The trial judge, Justice Okon Abang, changed his earlier order that the sureties must own property in the Maitama area of Abuja only to an order that the sureties must own property in any area of the Federal Capital Territory. 

He however, retained the sum of bail which he put at 400 million Naira.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic becomes the highest paid footballer in France


According to les Parisen newspaper, the 34 year old PSG star striker has been handed a 700,000 euros ($760,000) monthly pay-rise making him by far the highest-paid footballer in France.

Ibrahimovic joined the club in 2012 from AC Milan and has scored 127 goals in 156 games since then.

 He now gets 1.5 million euros ($1.1 million) a month before tax under the performance-based hike agreed late last year.

A Lagos State High Court on Wednesday adjourned till February 8, 2016 to rule on two applications seeking to stop the prosecution of the two engineers who built the collapsed Synagogue Church Of All Nation’s six-storey building.SCOAN-building-collapse
The collapsed building killed 116 persons on September 12, 2014.
The engineers, Messrs Oladele Ogundeji and Akinbela Fatiregun, and their companies, Hardrock Construction and Engineering Company; and Jandy Trust Limited, have been charged with 110 counts of involuntary manslaughter.
