15 die as bus crashes into truck in Delta

No fewer than 15 persons died in Thursday’s auto crash that occurred at Ubulu Okiti junction in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta, an official of the Federal Road Safety Commission has said.

Delta State Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr. Rindom Kumven, said this in Asaba in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria. He said a bus, marked DT 266 B28, enroute Asaba-Abraka, was trying to avoid a head on collision with an articulated vehicle when the accident occurred.

The sector commander added that the articulated vehicle was trying to tow a broken down truck loaded with iron rods before the crash. He explained that the driver of the bus, on sighting the barrier ahead, attempted to swerve to the other side of the road, lost control in the process and rammed into the truck.

Kumven said 14 persons died on the spot, while the FRSC officials rescued two others and took them to Mother and Child Hospital at Issele-Uku.

The sector commander, however, lamented that one of the two rescued passengers later died and the other had since been discharged.
