Buhari should address Nigerians from the UK to quell death rumours– NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to address Nigerians from the UK to dispel the rumours of his death.

General Secretary of the NLC, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson said the proper thing was for the President to address Nigerians who are concerned about his health.

Ozo-Eson said, “In the social media, stories circulate without confirmation; I think that the easiest way is to talk publicly to the nation because the citizens are concerned about their leaders’ whereabouts.

Adama Barrow returns to the Gambia

Gambians yesterday Thursday welcomed home their new President Adama Barrow, who was elected Dec. 1, 2016, but was forced to flee to Senegal when his predecessor refused to step aside.

Barrow accompanied by his two wives and some of his children, was welcomed by military officials and senior members of his coalition government.

His return marks The Gambia's first democratic transfer of power.

Border wall: Mexico leader cancels US visit

Mexico's President Enrique Pena Nieto on Thursday said he will not go to the US for meeting with President Donald Trump next week.

This declaration is coming after Trump said it was better to cancel Pena Nieto's visit to Washington if Mexico was unwilling to foot the bill for a border wall.

Pena Nieto said on Twitter, referring to Trump; "This morning we informed the White House that I will not attend the work meeting planned for next Tuesday with the POTUS,"

Nigerian literary icon Buchi Emecheta is dead

Nigerian literary icon, Buchi Emecheta is dead. The novelist died in her home in London at the age of 72.

She was one of Nigeria's veteran writers, an author of more than 20 books including 'The Joys of Motherhood', 'Second-Class Citizen', 'The Bride Price', 'The Slave Girl' and many others.

Buchi Emecheta received many literary awards during her lifetime.

Buhari’s anti-corruption war is a complete failure – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the anti-corruption war of President Muhammadu Buhari as a complete failure and a farce.

The party stated this on Wednesday in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Prince Day Adeyeye.

The statement reads; “The Letter by President Muhammadu Buhari which was read on the Floor of the Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, clearing the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Alhaji Babachir David Lawal has finally confirmed our earlier assertion that the ‘Anti-Corruption War’ of the APC led administration is a ruse; a witch-hunting mechanism to harass PDP members and perceived enemies of this administration,”.

Mexican President replies Trump; We will not pay for the wall

President of Mexico, Enrique Pena Nieto in a message to the nation said his country will not pay for Donald Trump’s border wall.

Trump on Wednesday signed an executive order for an impassable physical barrier and has insisted Mexico would reimburse the US for it.

He said, “Mexico doesn’t believe in walls”.

President Trump signs executive order to start Mexico border wall

US President Donald Trump has signed two immigration-related decrees aimed at fulfilling his campaign pledge to build a wall on Mexican border on Wednesday.

According to the White House, Trump visited the Department of Homeland Security to sign an order to begin work to build a large physical barrier on the southern border.

APC summons Shehu Sani over attack on Buhari

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has written to the Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani to appear and provide explanations for his utterances regarding the anti-corruption crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Sani is expected to appear at the party’s office in Abuja to discuss his criticism of President Buhari’s on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday.

The letter was drafted on Wednesday evening by the party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

FG to pay N150BN to petroleum marketers

The federal government has directed that petroleum marketers be paid the sum of N150bn owed them in subsidy on the cost of delivery of petroleum products across the country.

The directive was given by the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari on Wednesday following a meeting with the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).

The National Secretary of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Zarma Mustapha, briefing newsmen said the approval was with immediate effect.

He said, “The meeting had nothing to do with increase in petroleum pump prices. We looked into the issue of diesel and kerosene and as a matter of fact government is tackling the issues.

Prepare to defend yourselves from Fulani herdsmen - CAN

The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Ughelli, Delta State, Bishop Diamond Emuobor, has called on Christians in the country to defend themselves against any form of attack from rampaging Fulani herdsmen.

Bishop Emuobor, who is the General Overseer of Trinity Gospel Mission, gave the charge on Wednesday while reacting to recent killings in Southern Kaduna which had claimed lives and property. 

He said, “Christians should defend themselves and he who has no sword, should sell his coat and buy one to defend himself. We are all human beings, nobody should catch you like a snail and slaughter because you believe in Jesus Christ.

Two suicide bombers attack Maiduguri

At least three person has been feared dead after two suicide bomb attack on Wednesday morning in Maiduguri.

A senior member of the civillian JTF, Danbatta Bello said;“We heard the first explosion about some few minutes after midnight but soldiers were able to stop him from carrying out his attack when they shot him near the security check post in Usmanti. His bombs went off not quite 50 meters away from the sandbags at the check post as soon as the soldier sitting on top of a security observation post shot at him,”.
