Dasukigate: EFCC searches ex-Vice President, Namadi Sambo’s Abuja office

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has raided the Abuja office of the immediate Vice President, Namadi Sambo in search of clues linking him to the $2.1bn arms scandal.

Operatives of the anti-graft were said to have searched Sambo’s Manyatha Company on Saturday due to the unusual movement of hefty bags from his home into the office, The Nation reports.

The report stated that the operatives as at Monday were yet to vacate the office due to the alleged uncooperative attitude of the former Vice President’s employees.

President Buhari is free to send me on assignments – Jonathan

Immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan has stated that he is ready to work for his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.

Jonathan, however, said he would not force himself on the current government if his attention was not needed.

The former president who was in Geneva, Switzerland, where he was honoured by an association of international diplomats, the Cercle Diplomatique, based in Geneva, for the roles he played during the smooth transition of power in 2015, however declined comment when asked by journalist to rate the current government.

SSANU to suspend strike over sack of university staff workers

The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU), says it will hold crucial National Executive Council (NEC), meeting in Abuja on Feb. 2, to suspend its over one month old strike.

The Chairman of SSANU, University of Benin branch, Mr John Alilei, disclosed this in a telephone interview to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin on Monday.

Alilei said the planned suspension was prompted by the Federal Government’s decision to put the directive to sack some university staff workers on hold.

I’m the only legal wife of Ojukwu – Bianca tells court

Mrs Bianca Ojukwu on Monday told an Igbosere High Court, Lagos, that she was the only legal wife of the late Ikemba of Nnewi, Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu.

She said this during the commencement of trial in the legal battle between her and the other family members over the family estate.

Bianca had instituted the case on behalf of her two under-aged children, Afamefuna and Nwachukwu.

She is asking the court to determine the legitimate owners of Ojukwu Transport Ltd (OTL) and to stop an alleged move by the family to eject her sons from the company’s properties located in Lagos.

Emir Sanusi sacks Kano Governor’s brother as Head of Ganduje Village

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, has sacked the younger brother of Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje, Alhaji Sani Ganduje, as the Village Head of Ganduje in Dawakin Tofa Local Government.

Sanusi announced the removal of Ganduje at a special palace sitting in Kano on Monday.

He said the measure had become necessary in view of what he described as ‘gross negligence of duty’ which the emirate council found disturbing.

Lagos gives illegal abattoirs two weeks to close down

The Lagos State Government has given illegal abattoirs two weeks within which to close down operations or risk severe consequences.

This is contained in a statement signed by the state’s Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Toyin Suarau, in Lagos on Monday.

The commissioner in the statement declared that such unauthorised abattoir would not be allowed to frustrate the resolve to monitor the quality of meat sold to members of the public.

Nigeria, Italy sign agreement on police training, intelligence sharing

Nigeria and Italy on Monday in Abuja signed an agreement on intelligence sharing, capacity building and provision of logistics that will enhance the operations of the Nigeria Police.

The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, signed for Nigeria, while the Italian National Police Chief, Alessandro Pansa, signed for the Italian government.

The event, witnessed by President Muhammadu Buhari and the Italian Prime Minister, Mr Matteo Renzi, in the State House was part of bilateral meeting between the two countries.

Senator wants suspended NITDA DG probed for job, contract scams

Senator Solomon Adeola (APC-Lagos-West) has backed the suspension of the Director-General of the Nigerian Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, Peter Jack, and called for his investigation.

This was contained in a statement signed by his media aide, Kayode Odunaro, on Monday.

Adeola, the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Communications, said the director-general, who was suspended over employment and contract scams, should be further investigated.

He said the suspended director-general must be further investigated for the period he held the position as head of NITDA.

FCMB sacks 150 staff

First City Monument Bank has sacked 150 of their staff, a top official of the bank said on Monday.

The official, who preferred anonymity, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that those relieved of their duties represented five per cent of the bank’s 3,000 workforce.

He said the bank had also employed some new staff to replace some of those sacked.

You can't attend Law School while serving – NYSC warns corpers

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has warned corps members against participating in the National Service and attending the Law School at the same time.

“It is illegal and unacceptable”, the Corps warned on Monday, at the 2016 Annual Management Conference of the Scheme, in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The conference noted that “the NYSC Act provides for uninterrupted service year, and advised prospective Corps members to choose which one to defer between National Service and Law School attendance instead of attempting to combine both. Parents of prospective Corps members have also been advised by the conference to allow their children take decisions as adults and avoid discouraging them from accepting postings to any locations in the country.”

Boko Haram: Send Lai Mohammed to Sambisa forest without escort – Fayose tells Buhari

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to send Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, to Sambisa forest to address a press conference in order to prove that the government is winning the fight against insurgency.

In a statement issued on his behalf by Lere Olayinka, his special assistant on public communications and new media, Fayose urged the president to tell Nigerians the truth about the battle against Boko Haram.

Commenting on the most recent attack in Borno State, the governor said it was time for the president to lead the fight against insurgents in fulfillment “of his campaign promise”.
