Blogger allegedly arrested on the order of Gov. Amosun released from police custody

The Chief Magistrate Anthony Araba of the Magistrate court in Isabo, Abeokuta today finally signed the bail bond of the arraigned blogger, Emmanuel Ojo Adediran, who was arrested over the weekend over a Facebook post alleging that governor Amosun's wife was involved in money laundering in London. At around 3:00pm, Ojo was released from the remand prison to his team of lawyers.

His release however didn't come without an event. The counsel to the Nigeria Police approached the court to request that his bail bond should not be signed as the police isn't sure of the sureties provided by the defendant even after confirming the authenticity of the properties presented.

Magistrate Anthony however ruled in favour of the defendant stating that he can 'no longer be pushed around'.

Young Couple Lose Their Entire Property To Van Man

Becky Szenk, 22, and Mark Higgins, pictured with daughter Ariyah above, had booked a removal worker advertised as Lee Green to move their possessions from their flat to the pub in Walsall, West Midlands, that Mr Higgins manages.

But after the two workers loaded up the rental van, they drove off with the entire contents of the couple's flat - including the fridge freezer and washing machine gifts - and were never seen again. The missing items include a wardrobe, a settee, the couple's engagement gifts and clothing and medical records for Miss Szenk's seven-month-old daughter.

The Facebook page advertising the removal service has since been taken down after they made complained to Facebook administration. The West Midlands Police are also investigating the alleged theft. As usual, a Gofundme page has now been set up to raise money for the family which has so far collected £880 worth of donations.

CAF Fines Nigeria $5000

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has slammed a $5000 fine on Nigeria for fans misconduct during its first leg 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match on June 13 against Chad.

The decision of the continent’s football governing body was released on its website in Cairo on Tuesday as several punishments were handed to erring countries and clubs alike after the disciplinary board meeting.

FIFA Presidency: Former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu Steps In

The Association of Professional Footballers of Nigeria [APFON] have declared their ‘total support’ for the candidature of Segun Odegbami to run for the FIFA Presidency even as they have called on Orji Uzor Kalu, the other Nigerian also in the race to step down.

The umbrella body for active and retired players in the country argue that Odegbami is better qualified to contest for the exalted position and should be supported by all well-meaning Nigerian and Africans as a whole.

APFON Secretary, Austin Popo, told Premium Times in Lagos that in terms of successes in business and politics, Kalu stands over and above Odegbami but when it comes to football, the former Abia governor is miles behind the ex-Green Eagles skipper.

He said: “APFON like to acknowledge Orji Uzor Kalu for his contribution to governance in Abia State, his successes in business and his role with Enyimba when he was governor.

“However, this is football matter that requires a person vast in the game and its affairs. This time it is not about money.”

Mr. Popo, while admitting that Kalu also has the right to contest for the FIFA top seat, pointed out that Odegbami would not struggle for a business or politics related position with the ex governor hence he should do what is ‘right’

“Kalu should give way please for the sake of Nigeria, the generations of football players that have served and serving the country and the entire youths of the country. We appeal to him to give up his ambition and support the man who embodies football through and through,” the APFON scribe submitted.

On their part, former Nigerian players Ganiyu Ajide and Tajudeen Disu appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation to give Odegbami the necessary backing to support his ambition as the country will definitely benefit in the return.

A long list of achievements by Odegbami which sells him as a better candidate was also reeled out by the AFCON executives who revealed that they already have the Trade Union Congress support and would be writing to relevant government bodies including the Senate, House of Reps and Presidency in the coming days to further drum support for their preferred candidate.

FIFA is expected to conduct fresh polls in March 2016 to elect a new president to replace Sepp Blatter.

Just like Odegbami, ex-footballers like Luis Figo and Michel Platini have shown interest in becoming the next FIFA boss.

Senate begins sitting without ministerial list

The senate this morning began its sitting without senate president Bukola Saraki reading the much awaited ministerial list. The tradition in the senate has always been that any communication from the President is read before the commencement of proper legislative business but that did not happen as Senator Bukola went straight into legislative matters.

The minority leader of the senate Godswill Akpabio observed the abnormal and immediately raised a point of order.
“The President had promised to announce his ministerial nominees today and the Senate President has finished reading the days announcements without it, why?,” Akpabio said.
The senate president however did not reply him. Senate leader, Bala Ibn Na'Allah said the legislative day had not elapsed and so more everyone should be patient. The house is still in session.

Timi Alaibe pulls out of APC's Bayelsa guber primary

One of the governorship aspirants in Bayelsa state, Timi Alaibe has pulled out of the APC governorship primaries in Bayelsa state. In a statement he released today, Alaibe who is a former MD of NDDC, said he was stepping down in the interest of the party. His statement in part reads
"I am not oblivious of the fundamental fact that we all need a virile, united, cohesive and collaborative APC to bring about our desires to fruition. Not only do we need this, APC deserves every sacrifice, including personal interests, to arrive at the envisaged destination come February, 2016. This is more so that both as individual leaders and as a party, the need to avoid a situation of crisis that the PDP might inadvertently reap from cannot be over-emphasised.” he said
